Bio
Shawn Xiao is a multimedia visual artist based in NYC. His practice is mainly focused on painting, sculpture, and wearable art. He was born and raised in Chengdu, China, where he initially began his study with Chinese ink painting and oil painting. In 2020 he graduated from the Massachusetts College of Art and Design in Boston with a BFA in Fashion Design. 2024, he completed his MFA in Fine Art at the School of Visual Arts in New York City.
His work explores the depths of memory, time, and consciousness. Through sculptures and paintings, he creates an imaginary world that serves as both a sanctuary for forgotten memories and a mirror reflecting the relentless passage of time. Each piece is a process—a fluid, evolving testament to moments that have slipped away, constantly forming, reforming, and disintegrating as memories dissolve into the negative space of the mind.
This space, the environment where all life unfolds, becomes the backdrop of the work, a landscape shaped by time’s propulsive force, pushing towards an uncertain future. In observing how experiences bloom and fade away, Shawn becomes both creator and audience of his own consciousness, exploring the beauty, sorrow, and fleeting nature of life itself.
